Last season the Wheeling Park High School Varsity Softball team went 17-13, this season the team is looking forward to getting on the turf to compete.
“I’m looking forward to this season because we have a really nice group of young ladies playing. They’re devoted, they work hard, and seem to get along pretty well together and that’s a big key,” said Patrick Durkin, head softball coach at Wheeling Park High School.
Leading up to the season the team works six days a week, doing workouts, pitching and hitting sessions. The girls are also preparing themselves to be able to keep up the performance on the field while keeping the grades up in the classroom.
“During this off season I think we had six out of seven days scheduled for something to do, we had conditioning three days, hitting three days, and pitching two days,” said Durkin.
“I make sure I get plenty of rest at night so I can be 100% on the field and at school I don’t get on my phone that much so I really focus on my assignment and I usually get them done before school ends,” said Katelyn Kozlowski, senior member on the Wheeling Park High School softball team.
A goal for any team is to be able to compete at the state tournament. This year, the team is working harder than ever to be able to compete there.
“I am hoping that we make it down state this year and get better with each game to lead up to that goal, overall I’m hoping to push very hard to try and get down state,” said Delaney Randolph, junior member of the Wheeling Park High School softball team.
The first game of the season is March 13, 2024, at Parkersburg high school, the first home game is March 14, 2024 against University High School.
