Attendance Check-in

As stated in the October attendance article, this year started as an above-average year for good attendance since Covid. Though shortly after it was published, the temperatures started getting colder and colder. Now as we sit here in the latter parts of Winter, the attendance rates have gone down because of all of the illnesses going around.

However, since we are almost 3/4ths finished with the school year, that statewide limit of 10 parent notes is starting to become an issue for a group of students.

“We have several students who have run out of parent notes,” said Assistant Principal Mrs. Bugaj.

On top of that, the main office averages about 75 calls a day this time of year for student absences.

“As calls come in I keep an Excel that I use, and that’s where I put in when they call off,” said Attendance Secretary Mrs. Palmer.

Even with all of those absences in the past couple of months, the average attendance rate is still about 92%.

“We take the average daily attendance of the current population of our students divided by the number that are absent,” said Mrs. Bugaj referring to how they calculate the average rate.

Though we may only have about 10 weeks left, Mrs. Bugaj has expectations for the last quarter of the year.

“I would like everyone to come to school and pass all of their classes, and the seniors to graduate,” said Bugaj.
