Oglebay Park held their annual Oglebayfest celebration this past weekend at Hess Shelter for the Wheeling community. It featured artisan vendors, food trucks, and much more! This traditional three-day festival began back in 1978, and has become a staple in Wheeling’s fall season ever since.
Oglebayfest offers something for everyone in the family. From the 0.5K beer dash to the annual baby crawling contest, there’s never a dull moment at the fest. One of the most popular events is the German Rathskeller dance. This admired bash offered traditional German eats, brews, music, and dancing.
Not into German food? Well, The Harvest Carnival created many treats such as deep-fried Oreos, corn dogs, and delicious chocolate bananas. Brunches, dinners, and food trucks were also spotted at the festival.
Everyone’s favorite part of Oglebayfest is the live music! The line-up this year featured Cabin Fever String Band, Smoke Daddy and the Crawfish, Sarah Mahan-Hays, and many more. Most of these bands performed at Hess Shelter where the dance floor held lots of active attendees.
Many Park students attend Oglebayfest annually and describe it to be an anticipated celebration.
“Oglebayfest is important to me because it’s a family tradition because I’ve been going there with my family since I was little,” said Samantha Ashmore.
“When I think about Oglebayfest it’s just fall everything, I finally get to bust out my vest, and maybe like my overalls will make an appearance. It is the most exciting time of the year,” Anna Brannare said.
“I’ve been going to Oglebayfest for years now, it’s really a family experience. The vibes are immaculate,” Lexi Irwin said.
Students love the diverse festivities. If you didn’t get a chance to stop by this year, make sure to visit next year and check out the Phil Maxwell Artists’ and Gourmet Market, the Hilltop shopping, the Oglebayfest parade and fireworks, The Good Zoo attractions, and much more!
