We are winding down another school year here in Ohio County and here at Wheeling Park, a lot happened this school year. To mark this occasion, here is a timeline of major events, from notable athletic performances, to Homecoming and Prom, and everything in between.

August 23rd: Wheeling Park welcomes students and the class of 2026.

Although September was a bit of a slow month for major events, all of the fall sports were in the heart of their seasons. Football went 3-2, beating Brashear (PA), University, and Morgantown. Boys soccer went 7-2-1. Volleyball played 20 matches and went 10-10. Then finally Girls Soccer played 10 games, going 7-3.

October 1st: Boys soccer beats University to win OVAC’s.

October 5th: Golf wins their 7th state championship, Coach Headley’s 6th.

October 14th: Football beats #1 Musselman in the Homecoming Game.

October 15th: Homecoming dance takes place in the main gym.

November 11th: The Butler Did It Fall Play opens in the Performing Arts Center.

November 22nd: The bowling team starts their first ever season.

December 2nd: Girls Basketball opens their season with a win against Washington.

December 9th: Boys basketball opens their season with a win against Zanesville in the Sam Andy Classic.

December 16-18th: Festival of Sound takes place in the Performing Arts Center.

Like September, January was a fairly slow month for major events, besides MLK Day. So here was how the winter sports were doing in January. Wrestling had 7 events in January, Swimming came in with one more, having 8 events, including OVAC’s. Boys basketball played 8 games going 4-4, while girls basketball played 11 games, going 11-0.

February 4th: Cheering wins their 25th OVAC title.

March 11th: Girls basketball finishes runner-up in the state.

March 11th: Speech and Debate wins their 43rd consecutive state championship.

March 11th: Robotics wins a state championship.

April 22nd: Prom takes place in the main Gym.

April 30th: Baseball wins the 5A OVAC’s against University.

May 5-7th: Mean Girls the Spring Musical takes place in the Performing Arts Center.

May 12th: Wheeling Park says goodbye to the class of 2023 with the last day for seniors and the awards ceremony.

May 20th: Seniors graduation takes place at Wesbanco Arena.

May 26th: The school year officially ends for students in Ohio County.
