Jameson Maynard is a dedicated and talented student-athlete from Wheeling Park High School, who has made a significant mark in the world of high school wrestling. His recent achievement of winning the 2024 OVAC State Championship Title is a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and outstanding skill on the mat.
Alongside Wrestling, Maynard is also committed to his studies, and is a Linebacker for the WPHS Football Team. He was awarded the 2024 Mehl Award Winner, with 127 tackles, 107 solo stops, 17 TFLs, and 3 interceptions. His ability to excel in both sports and academics shows his dedication and hard work. On the football field, his impressive stats highlight his talent and determination. Then while In the classroom, he maintains a high GPA.
But his journey to the top, was nothing short of easy. Jameson’s training shows a huge part of his dedication to sport. In season and off season, he spent countless hours working on his strength, agility, and technique for both football and wrestling.
“Throughout the summer and throughout the spring, even when wrestling season isn’t In full swing, you still have to put In the work you know. You still have to go In the room everyday to get better,” said Maynard.
His coaches and teammates admire his relentless work ethic and his drive to continually improve. This training has not only made him a formidable wrestler but also instilled in him the discipline and perseverance that define his character.
“He’s always out there giving it his all, even in practice or at competition, he’s just always out there trying to be his best,” said head coach Daniel Doyle.
He further says that “He’s a great leader, that has absolutely prepared himself to wrestle at the next level”
Beyond his individual accomplishments, Jameson Is also known for his sportsmanship and leadership. He Is a role model for his friends, often encouraging and pushing his peers to be the best they can be. His victory is not just a personal triumph but a source of pride for the entire Wheeling Park High School community.
“He’s just all around a good guy, he’s the right person to hang around. He pushes you everyday to make you get better. He makes you work harder no matter who you are in the room,” said Hunter Means, who plays alongside Jameson in football and wrestling.
Jameson Maynard’s state championship title is a well-deserved recognition of his talent and hard work. As he looks forward to future challenges and college opportunities, there Is no doubt that he will continue to achieve great things both on and off the mat.
