Wheeling Park Varsity Hockey played Penn-Trafford High School at Wesabanco Arena, and after all the hard work put in, they lost 6-2. In sports, losing is never a pleasant feeling, but it is something that every athlete experiences and is an inevitable part of athletics. During the first period, 3 players scored for Penn-Trafford. Then, during the second period, again Penn-trafford scored 3 goals and 2 Patriots scored, Gavin Hudrlik and Luke Simonetti.
“I think the highlight of the game was how good our call-ups did for this being their first varsity game,” said Parker Jasko, a junior on the team.
These call-ups were very helpful due to a lot of players being out–for example, senior captain, Cooper Abraham.
Brody Davis, a senior on the team, addresses why he believes they lost.
“The first game is always hard, the team we played had already played multiple games,” said Davis, “We had some core players out, including newly assigned captain, Cooper Abraham,” said Davis.
Brody Davis also had some input on who he thought played to their fullest potential.
“The team played well as a whole, but Denny stood out; he worked hard and listened when a coach or a fellow teammate was giving him advice,” said Davis.
Kyle Miller, a senior on the team, explains what he thinks they could do to get stronger before the next game: “Just working on the little things that we need to improve, and hopefully we can succeed in the next game.”
While we welcome our home patriots back to the ice, we need to keep in mind that these athletes have been working very hard behind the scenes to get everything together for the new season. Be sure to support your Patriot hockey team on October 23rd, 2025. They play Bishop McCort at the 1st Summit Arena at 6:00 PM.
